My name is Venus and I am a native New Yorker, born and raised in The Bronx. As a
child I spent some summers in Puerto Rico and lived there for a couple of years after
college. My bachelor’s degree is in Latin America and Caribbean studies as I am
intrigued by these regions’ history, culture and language/dialects.
I learned about my current profession after a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
taught me how to properly bottle feed my son. This experience dramatically changed
both of our lives and I decided to return to school and pursue a Masters degree in the
field. It is by far the best decision I have ever made. Before Bright Beginnings I was a
school based SLP which provided me with a great foundational experience. However, I
never forgot about the feeding therapy my son received and how it impactful it was for
us. Therefore, I decided to change to a setting where I will have the opportunity to pay it
forward and help families whose children also struggle with eating.
Overall, I love working with children and helping them learn speech and language
skills through play. I am passionate about “meeting children where they’re at” while
continuing to encourage their growth and progress.
I am particularly interested in feeding and swallowing therapy, early intervention,
bilingualism, AAC, ADHD and social communication or pragmatics.
During my free time I enjoy hanging out with my little guy. To relax, I tend to my
houseplants, read, and meditate. I love going dancing, spending time in nature and
exploring California.
