👯‍♂️ Did you know that turn-taking and imitation are foundational techniques for encouraging communication from our infants and toddlers? But what if your kiddo doesn’t imitate you? Try having them copy a favorite toy! 🐻 Animate a favorite toy for your kiddo to copy its gestures: waving goodbye, blowing a kiss, giving a high five, or shaking their head “no”. From there, you can build up to environmental sounds, like animal sounds (“moo moo” “woof woof”) and vehicle sounds (“vrrrmm vrrrmm” “beep beep”), and then on to true words. 🔢 This activity is called Memory Spatial Digits. With the use of digit cards and a metronome, this activity aims to develop concentration, memory, visual span, and visualization skills. ⏰ This awesome rock star has been working hard over the last few months mastering all the levels of this particular activity. In the video, she is given 3 seconds to memorize a card with 6 digits and spaces in between. Keeping the beat with the metronome, she recites the numbers in order while multiplying each digit by 3! Sarah helps our kiddos build a solid foundation of cognitive learning skills, such as executive function, processing, and core learning needed for higher academic success.
